I recently bought this product for my father, who's 93, and finds the remote that came with his new TV too confusing. On the surface, this unit would seem to be the perfect solution. In reality, it's not. Why? In order to make it work, it requires that you enter a four digit code which corresponds to the manufacturer of the TV in question. The instructions include a long list of manufacturers - 227 of them - and for each major maker there are roughly 15 to 25 codes to pick from. There is no way of knowing which code is correct, so you are forced to try each one. Entering the numbers for each code requires a time consuming, repetitive, button pressing exercise that you must continue until a little red light on the remote turns off.
I spent over two hours going through this process with every code listed for my dad's TV, and never found the correct code. To make matters worse, it agitated him greatly to sit there and watch me try to make this work.
The instructions go on to say that if this method does not produce results, you can use another method which requires that "you may have to press the button 200 times or more to find your code." Since the first method did not work, I went to this second method, and must have pressed the button at least 1,000 times if I pressed it once, still with no results. At that point I gave up.
Had I known all this in advance, I never would have ordered this product. I'm getting my money back. + See Full Customer Review |  |
